November is coming to an end. It’s the sweetest month of the year, the most comfortable, accepting, and intimate season when you feel how Nature is preparing for deep sleep. It’s a good time to reevaluate and rethink many aspects of your life and to become more aware of your own health.
November is internationally considered the month of Men’s health awareness. It’s dedicated to raising awareness of many health issues of men. They say men seek out medical care less frequently than women - and there can be various reasons why: from gender stereotypes to the lack of time. We are not competent in mentioning statistics, but our experience will allow us to state that the pattern mentioned above also applies to dermatology and cosmetology. If you sit for a while in a queue for dermatology or cosmetology treatment, you will notice for sure that men are less keen on getting such treatment.
And this is why we have gathered here today: we wanted to help you gain the knowledge you need about men’s skincare. So, dear gentlemen, buckle up, and let’s explore the world of skincare together.
Is skincare different for men and women?
We all know and notice the main differences between the skin of women and men. It is proven that men’s skin is much thicker than women’s. But the key steps for good and effective skincare are mainly the same both for men and women. The logic is as follows: our skin knows no gender, it just needs to be taken care of.
In a world full of stereotypes based on gender, remember that we all need to take care of ourselves, our bodies, and our health.
And skincare is an inseparable part of a healthy lifestyle. To start and set a good skincare routine, you need to understand your skin type first.
As we have told before, there are four types of skin: normal, dry, oily, and combination. And there are skin conditions, such as, for example, sensitivity, when your skin has redness, it may be itching, and it reacts quickly to any trigger. And all these types and all conditions apply to both genders, there is no difference between them.
What’s my skin type?
Checking your skin type is simple - just wash your face with a gentle cleanser and apply no product after that. If your skin is comfortable and you notice no excess oil and grease on it, and it does not itch or does not feel tight, then you have a normal skin type. If your skin feels dry and tight, then most probably you have dry skin. If your skin looks oily and greasy, then you have oily skin. If you have combination skin, you may notice dryness on the C-zone of your face and oiliness on your T-zone. When you already know your skin type, you can go ahead to set up your skincare routine. But before that, let’s check what are the key points of men’s skincare that make it different from women’s skincare.
So unique
The key difference that makes men’s skincare so unique is probably the thickness of hair and shaving. Particularly, if we talk about facial skin care, it becomes more complicated to keep your skin comfortable - both if you shave your facial hair every day or grow a beard. In both cases, you may notice ingrown hair, which can result in skin inflammation, and even cause acne.
You first may think that if men’s skin is thick, it cannot be damaged. But it’s also sensitive to various triggers and you need to take care of your skin.
If you shave frequently, you might prefer multi-blade razors that shave fast and are more effective. But they may shave too close to your skin, which can cause razor bumps, burns, ingrown hair, etc. That’s why many experts recommend using single or double-blade razors and never stretching your face tightly when shaving. Before shaving, make sure to wet your skin and hair to make the process smoother and less traumatic. Always shave in the hair growth direction and try not to swipe the razor too many times on the same part. Remember to rinse your razor after each swipe and change the blade every 5-7 times shaving. These steps will help you reduce irritation caused by shaving.
If you grow a beard, choose non-toxic and natural care products like wax, oil, and beard shampoo, and consider changing your beard comb when you notice it is worn out to avoid possible damage and infections.
Simple steps and consistency
Skincare must not be complicated for anyone. Who said skincare must be consisting of various products and many steps that require too much time and too many resources? Believe us, it’s not true. By picking only a few products, by choosing Nature above everything, you can receive real results and still avoid doing too many steps. Doing skincare two times a day - in the morning and in the evening - is an essential need for everyone, the gender does not matter.
All you need is three-step skincare which includes proper cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. As a final step, use clean sunscreen to keep your skin safe in the sunny hours of the day. It’s also applied to cases when you are inside but the UV rays of the Sun enter the room through windows.
As a clear option for a cleanser, choose BBA Organic’s Oil-To-Milk Double Cleanser. Cleanse your face in the morning to get rid of the excess sebum that accumulated during the night and refresh your skin. At least one hour before going to bed, cleanse the oil and dirt from your face that has built up on your face. If you work out, you will need to wash your face with a cleanser additionally after sweating. Apply the cleanser by massaging it into your skin, then add some water and wash it as a milk cleanser from your skin. At first, you will feel the oily formula, but don’t worry: it will not leave your face greasy, just right the opposite.
After cleansing, tone your skin with the organic non-toxic Daily Exfoliating Toner-Serum from BBA Organic which has a pure and gentle formula to exfoliate your skin without damaging it.
Wait a few minutes and apply a moisturizer: BBA has two moisturizers - the Clarifying Gel-Moisturizer for oily and acne-prone skin, and the Advanced Moisturizer for normal to dry skin. Choose the one that fits your skin and you’re done. Now you have a clean, non-toxic, gentle, and highly effective skincare routine. Just remember that no skincare is really effective without consistency: repeat these steps twice a day and the results will be evident.
Facts we shouldn’t tell you…
This one part is well hidden in the blog post as we will tell you something we shouldn’t… Okay, jokes aside. Thousands of skincare brands worldwide earn millions just by producing the same products with different scents or in different packaging… just to make their products gender-specific.
In reality, there are no products designed for a specific gender.
Gender doesn’t determine the needs of your body and organs. It’s just a part of the fairytale that there are specific colors, scents, and styles that have been created for a specific gender only. Guess what? This trick works, unfortunately. People spend thousands of dollars just to stay in the hype and don’t dig deeper to know the truth. We want you to know that the bold and brutal packaging, dark colors of product design, and “men-specific” scents of the products are just a marketing trick, and they don’t determine anything.
BBA is for everyone
BBA Organic products are for everyone. You can clearly see that we don’t distinguish our BBA family members based on their gender. BBA products never contain artificial perfume, so don’t worry about the scent: your skin will not smell undesirable. All we have in BBA products is only Nature.
